Judul : Map Presentation on the Internet

Abstrak :
Bakosurtanal (National Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping of Indonesia) is a non-departmental government institution in Indonesia that performs governmental duties in the field of survey and mapping. One centre in the organizational structure of Bakosurtanal is the Centre for Services and Information (CSI) which has duties to promote, market, and disseminate services and products of survey and mapping through various media in order to serve the community. In order to improve its service to general public, Bakosurtanal uses many ways in distributing information.

Dissemination of information widely, quickly, systematically and informatively is an urgent requirement in global and information era. With the advance in technology, especially the internet, nowadays people can communicate one another disregarding their geographical positions.   The internet technology is also utilized by Bakosurtanal in distributing its products information, especially geospatial information or maps. By providing the geospatial information on the web, people can preview the maps before they come to Bakosurtanal and purchase the maps.

Bakosurtanal has a website with the URL of www.bakosurtanal.go.id since 1997.   Initially, the website only contained simple information and the capacity was no more than 2 MB. Most information, including the maps, was presented in textual form.

Until now, the website has experienced many changes on the layouts and contents, in conjunction with the development of data and information enclosed.   The capacity, network infrastructure and server specifications have also been improved to support the contents.   The maps as products of Bakosurtanal have also been presented in graphical forms in addition to the textual information. Some maps are presented as dynamic applications that can be viewed online
